The Academic Registrars Council (ARC) is the national forum of senior managers responsible for the academic administration of student matters in publicly funded Universities and Colleges of Higher Education within the United Kingdom.
In particular it seeks to; influence national debate and policy on matters related to academic administration through engaging in debate with sector agencies, participating in consultative exercises and ARC membership on working groups and committees stimulates debate on issues within and affecting academic administration; promote and share best practice in academic administration; support members and their colleagues in performing their roles in institutions, providing a focus for networking and development; work with other bodies such as AHUA, AUA, Universities UK, QAA, UCAS, HESA, SLC, OFFA and the funding councils, and is a member of HESMF.
The Council meets three times a year, with an annual residential conference held in September. To assist the development of policy and practice in specialised areas of student administration ARC operates Practitioner Groups, covering the areas of
Additionally, a professional development group is on place to lead on and facilitate staff development for members and their staff.
Under its constitution, all public UK universities, constituent colleges of the Universities of London and Wales and Colleges of Higher Education are entitled to one member on ARC. ARC facilitates the exchange of best practice and encourages debate through its members discussion 'mailbase'.
